Audience Feedback

When I created my Poster, Teaser Trailer and Magazine cover, I uploaded them onto Facebook so that I could recieve feedback from a wide range of audience but mainly from the target audience of which I am aiming my teaser trailer at. Some comments I recieved were very helpful and I took into concideration of what people were saying because at the end of the day, it is being aimed at them and what they say is good and bad, I will note down and change because every good and bad comment helps. Here are some comments that I recieved for my Poster:

Editing

From the film footage which I have collected and uploaded onto pinnacle. I have begun editing my teaser trailer and adding in transitions so that it moves from one scene smoothly to the next. I have had some difficulty in uploading all the footage onto pinnacle as the first try of uploading wouldn't work because of the firewire. Once I changed firewire and the footage was uploaded, I was then able to start putting the filming into Pinnacle and adding transitions.
Pinnacle allowed me to create my own production company clip which I placed at the beginning of the teaser trailer. I named my production company 'A Rubberduck Production' and was also able to add a duck noise over the top. This was the first part of my teaser trailer that I had created. The next thing to do was getting the footage in the right order and picking the right transitions that suited the clips and suited the genre of the teaser trailer. I found the editing the hardest part of creating the three products as the editing was all about getting the timing and length of the clip right. In one of the scenes, the character began to laugh at the end of the clip and I didn't notice this until it came to editing and surfing through the footage that I had, So I was unable to go back and film that bit again. As the clip was imported into Pinnacle, I was able to cut down the clip to before she started laughing which helped a lot because it then meant that I didn't have to worry about the continuity of the scene joining the next scene.

Titles & Fonts

For the Magazine cover, Poster and Teaser Trailer which I created as the three products, I have used various different fonts (Styles, Colour and Sizes) so that each one would attract my target audience in a different way and it wouldn't be all consistant throughout each product which is a convention that I have challeneged as from my research it showed that the style of font on the Film poster and also on the Teaser Trailer were the same and if not, then quite similar.

This is the font which I used on my poster. From the posters that I researched, I noticed that most of them were clear easy to read bold dark colours and I quite liked this as it was the type of font that grabbed my attention. I tried many fonts for the title but found that finding a style and colour that went well with the background colour/image and also contrasted the genre of the film was hard to find and sometimes I would get the style of font right but not the colour. I thought that having a simple black bold font would be easiest to read as it stands out more. Although this font is simple and boring, it works really well and I think it grabs the attention of an audience.

I used a similar font for the magazine title as I did for the poster as I thought of similar for this. It's clear and easily readable, it stands out and it's an abbreviated name which I think will hook people in. I outlined the bold black letters with white as I thought it helped it to stand out against the colour of the dark hair in the picture.
For this coverline, I used the same colour and outline as the title as I felt that the title grabs the attention quite well so I was hoping that the same style of font will help attract the attention to this coverline.

I used many different styles of fonts for different coverline stories like this one. I used a bright red colour which would help grab attention and also a bright yellow shape which also does the same. I used a brighter font for the coverlines that I felt were the best ones that needed most attention.

Filming update

Since my last blog I have started filming footage for my teaser trailer. This is going very well and I think I have enough footage to put together to create a decent length trailer. I don't want my teaser trailer to be any longer than a minute because from what my research has shown, many are about 1 minute and I want this to be a convention that I challenge.

I used a tripod to steady the camera whilst filming so that there wasn't any unsteady movements within my filming. The tripod really helped as it made it easy to move the camera side to side/up and down without it looking too shaky. It also allowed me to film footage and have both hands free to do the things that I wanted to do. I used this opportunity to create different sounds effects and play around with the lighting.

My original idea was to find outside with the camera close up against the window using the tripod but when it came to filming the footage, I found that even with the camera up against the window, it I could still see the reflection of the camera. This meant that I had to change the way that I filmed my footage which was a shame because I thought that this would have created the look that I was after of my character being watched from the window.

Animatic

This is my animatic that I made before the process of making my teaser trailer. It gives a rough idea of how I want to set out my trailer and the angles/shots that I want it to contain.

As this is the rough plan of how I want my Teaser Trailer to look like, by the time the teaser trailer is complete, certain things may be changed.

Media Technology

Throughout the process of making my teaser trailer, magazine and Poster I used many different media technologies. For the making of my Teaser Trailer I used technolgies such as:
Pinnacle - This was the main technology which I used. I used this to edit my teaser trailer and put it all together.
Camera - Used a camera to film footage for my film of which I then uploaded onto Pinnacle to do the next stages.
Edirol - To film sounds that were needed for my teaser trailer.
Laptop - I used a Vaio Laptop to create my teaser trailer on the editing programme, Pinnacle.

For my magazine cover and Poster I used media technologies such as:
Publisher - To design a simple layout for the magazine cover and poster.
Photoshop - To put the images together and also have a variety of fonts of which I could choose from. Also to edit the colour of the poster image.
Digital Camera - To take pictures of the character to use for the main image on the front cover and poster.

Film Magazine Cover

I have also done research on film magazine covers which would cover my target audience that I have chosen to aim my teaser trailer at. I have found four well known film magazine covers which I can analyse and use as research. From these four covers, I can then use them to base my own magazine cover around them and either challenge or keep the conventions of a popular film magazine cover.

The front cover of a 2009 issue of Empire Magazine.
From the analysis of the film magazine Empire, the title is block, bright colours which is the first thing that attracted me to the magazine when I first look at it. Having a clear block capital bright title makes the magazine stand out against others when it is piled up on shelves in shops. The main image that is spread across the entire front page shows the character from the film that's been a hit with the audience in the past. You can tell that it is an image from a sequel film because of the quote on the right hand side '*Bloody Hell Harry comes fighting back'. The image in the bottom left hand corner shows characters from three big upcoming up movies which is a good way of grabbing peoples attention because they see the image and they want to find out about it. I don't think this is a convention of movie posters but I may just follow this magazine layout and add a couple of images of upcoming movies to my front cover.

The cover of a weekly film magazine, Entertainment Weekly. This front cover is similar to the one above with the block letters and bright colours. The colour blue is consistent over the front page unlike the colour red on the Empire Magazine. Using the same colour for story lines that are the same colour as the title makes them stand out against everything else that is on the page and it makes that story stand out more than the others. It's a simple magazine front cover unlike Empire which has a lot of different film titles that grab your attention. I think the simple layout works well with the type of image that it is as it makes it look more powerful because it's not being overtaken by loads of eye catching film titles.

One of the most popular film magazines, Total Film.
Total Film is one of the most popular film magazines that are about. This is different from the other two that I have analysed as it doesn't have any film names, stories, gossip about celebs or images which is unusual for a film magazine. This layout is not a convention of a typical film magazine because there would normally be a few film titles on the front cover being advertised or at least a couple of images. This magazines title is also block capitals like the other two posters which shows that a block capital title could be a convention of film magazines. I like the way that 'Total' has been placed in the 'F' of film as it makes it different from just having a simple block title. I've noticed that 'Entertainment Weekly' is a similar title to 'Total Film' because the 'Weekly' is in the last few letters of 'Entertainment'. Before analysing these posters, I didn't know that 'weekly' was in the word 'Entertainment'.

Front Cover of a issue of the film magazine Premiere. This magazine cover is different to the others in many ways because the title isn't as blocked as the other titles that I have analysed which shows that not all magazines follow the conventions of magazine covers. I think the title itself is effective as 'Premiere' is normally associated with Film releases and the red carpet. The main colours that this cover has used are blue, white and black which are simple colours that are easy to read and they all work well together which helps make the magazine cover effective. I think that the long list of celebrity names is a little odd and it doesn't look right for the layout of the cover. Having a list of films/celebs is an idea that I will not be following when making my own magazine cover.

This is my own magazine which I have created. I decided to go with the convention of film magazines and make my title bold so that it stands out against the picture. The title of my Magazine is Mad.About.Movies which I thought was too long for a magazine cover so I abbreviated it to M.A.M and then underneath the title I put a little tag line that explain the abbreviated title which says 'Mad About Movies has all the up to date movie gossip'.
